GBV Sassy's Cute Band Alert

"My friend Matt has been obsessed with Guided by Voices for the past
year. He constantly sent me tapes and harassed me about listening to
them, and for some reason this made me want to ignore the band as hard
as I could. Finally I gave in, and actually liked what I heard (which
wasn't the case with Kyuss, his other favorite band).  Guided by Voices
is fronted by Robert Pollard, a 36-year-old schoolteacher and father
who likes to make songs that sould like the Beatles, kind of, with
weird lyrics.  For quite some time the band's been recording tapes in
their house and putting them out by themselves.  They are from Dayton,
Ohio, like the Breeders.  Now that Guided by Voices is hip, with a new
album called Bee Thousand and all, their more famous homegirls recently
recorded one of their songs.  I am not quite sure how a band like this
became scenesters, but then there's Tony Bennett."
